Maiden Of The Week

Resin (AUS) 3 f Exceed And Excel – Beaded by Lonhro

Promising Godolphin-raced filly Resin (Exceed And Excel) followed her first-up second in a three-year-old maiden over 1000 metres at Gosford on 22 February with an impressive win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

She settled in second place under jockey Glyn Schofield, racing outside the leader Dinnigan (Snitzel) at a good tempo before she was produced to deliver her challenge going strongly at the home turn.

She hit the front at the 100 metres and then drew clear to score smartly by a length and three quarters from Dinnigan in a good time of 1:10.03, with Everlasting Love (Your Song) a further two and a quarter lengths behind in third.

The Darley Australia-bred filly is one of two named foals out of the prolific mare Beaded (Lonhro), a half-sister to Group Three winner Rarefied (Commands) whose ten career victories included the 2011 Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1350m).

Resin is a half-sister to the Group Three placegetter Bezel (Street Cry) while her second dam, the seven-time winner Subtle (Night Shift), is a half-sister to dual Group One winner Undue (Commands) and Listed winner Absurd (Crown Jester).

Further back, this is the family of champion Shaybisc (Biscay) whose daughter Sashed (Sir Tristram) was also successful at Group Two level and went on to produce three-time Group One winner Freemason (Grand Lodge) and stakes winner Santissima (Quest For Fame).

Shaybisc is also the dam of Group Three winners Bradshaw (Last Tycoon) and Asarka (Crown Jester), while this is also the same family as Group One winners Mental (Lonhro) and Solar Circle (Star Way).

Resin’s sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill) has 17 lots catalogued at next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Beaded meanwhile died in December 2017 having been covered by Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) the previous November. Her final foal was a filly by Exceed And Excel, who is now a yearling.
