Roheryn (3 c Lonhro – Mannington by Danehill)
The beautifully bred Roheryn (Lonhro) won on debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and he looks to possess a bright future.
The Godolphin-raced colt showed the benefit of two barrier trial victories, the most recent coming just last month at Warwick Farm over 798 metres, to come home three quarters of a length clear of fellow trial winner Vedder (Star Witness).
Trained by James Cummings, Roheryn appeared to take a bit of time to find his stride on the Heavy 10 surface, before eventually reeling in the game front-runner Vedder and putting matters to bed with a smart turn of foot at the 100 metre mark.
Roheryn is out of the talented Group 3-winning mare Mannington (Danehill), making him a half-brother to Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Benicio (More Than Ready). The colt is also a half-brother to Group 2-winning mare Romneya (Red Ransom), who has already produced the stakes-placed filly Matilija (Medaglia d’Oro).
Mannington herself is out of Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) heroine and blue hen mare Bint Marscay (Marscay), who produced three winners from her three foals to race. These include Australian Group 3 winner Sheraton (Woodman) and Coolmore Classic (registered as TAD Kennedy Stakes) (Gr 1, 1500m) winner Bollinger (Dehere), the dam of Sandown Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Villermont (All Too Hard) and American Grade 2 winner Friesan Fire (A.P. Indy).
