Roselyn’s Star (AUS)
2 c Shalaa – Dual Star by Starcraft
Next month’s Kindergarten Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) now looms as the next target for Roselyn’s Star (Shalaa) after the John O’Shea-trained colt got off the mark at the second time of asking at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.
Having been beaten 0.8 lengths by Gatsby’s (Snitzel) on debut at Canterbury, who is the current favourite for Saturday’s Pago Pago Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m), Roselyn’s Star was sent off the odds-on favourite for yesterday’s 1000-metre event and easily defeated Perspiration (Too Darn Hot) by 2.9 lengths with a further 1.4 lengths back to Hezdarnhottoo (Too Darn Hot).
“He’s an exciting colt and we’ve always felt he had the capacity to do something like that,” O’Shea said. “He only had one trial going into his first-up run and then he had a hard run first-up, so he has really come on from that nicely.
“There is plenty of improvement to come from that and I’m looking forward to bringing him back here in three weeks’ time and giving him an opportunity to show how good he is.”
Roselyn’s Star was bought by the John O’Shea Racing Ladies Syndicate for $220,000 from the draft of his breeders Arrowfield Stud at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He is out of stakes-placed mare Dual Star (Starcraft), making him a brother to Shalstar, who, like her mother, was also placed at stakes level.
Dual Star was covered by Widden Stud-based sire Doubtland (Not A Single Doubt) last September.
