Maiden Of The Week

Rosina Kojonup (3 f Shamus Award – Courgette by Charge Forward)

Rosina Kojonup staged a very promising effort in winning at Hawkesbury on Wednesday, showing marked improvement from her debut ninth in a Listed contest at Scone back in May.

Having her first start this preparation off the back of a pair of trial wins, the filly was smartly into stride and went straight to the front under Adam Hyeronimus.

She then travelled along at a good tempo, was briefly challenged halfway down the straight before drawing away to win easily in a quick time of 56.58 (with last 600m in a fast 32.50).

The Bjorn Baker-trained Rosina Kojonup is the third foal out of the winning Charge Forward (Red Ransom) mare Courgette, of which the most significant so far has been the Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner She Will Reign.

A $425,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase, Rosina Kojonup is also a half-sister to promising juvenile Time To Reign (Time For War), who has won his only two starts to date in impressive fashion for trainer Gary Portelli.

Courgette herself is out of the unraced mare Our Farm Girl (Marscay), who is a sister to Gimcrack Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Millie and a half-sister to Listed scorer Touch Of Sun (Snippets).

Rosina Kojonup also hails from the family of Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Penghulu (Belele) as well as Group 2 heroine Sunshine Sally (Cheraw).
