Sizzling relocates to Riverdene Stud

Eight years on from a memorable win in the J J Atkins (Gr 1, 1600m) – then still the T J Smith – Sizzling (Snitzel) has found a new home at Riverdene Stud in Wagga Wagga.

Sizzling, who has stood his first six seasons at stud at Newgate Farm in the Hunter Valley, joins another new Riverdene acquisition in McLaren (Exceed And Excel), as well as returning stallions Strada (Danehill) and Va Pensiero (Stratum).

“We are excited to have a stallion of the calibre of Sizzling standing in southern NSW,” Riverdene Stud’s managing director Kevin Pendergast told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday. “He is a prolific sire of winners and we look forward to building on his already impressive performance at stud.”

Sizzling will stand at $6,600 (inc GST), down from $11,000 (inc GST) in his final season at Newgate Farm.

“He is priced right for our market and should be a very attractive stallion option in 2020 and beyond,” Pendergast said. “Our stud manager Amanda Elliott is looking forward to the season with the two new boys on the block at Riverdene.”

From three crops to race, Sizzling has produced Secret Blaze, winner of the Galilee Series Final (Listed, 2425m) and runner-up in the Blamey Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m), as well as six stakes placegetters. From 154 runners, he has had 80 winners, with his progeny earning almost $7 million in prize-money

He remains one of only two Snitzel sons at stud who was a Group 1 winner as a two-year-old.
