The Danny O’Brien-trained filly Summer Sham scored a promising win, albeit in a photo finish, on her racecourse debut over 1100 metres at Ballarat on Wednesday afternoon.
The three-year-old daughter of Arrowfield Stud stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) settled in fourth place in the early stages but was caught deep without cover in the small, six-runner field.
She moved up widest of all rounding the home turn, challenged going strongly at the 100 metres and finished strongly to score narrowly but quite impressively by a short-head against Over And Above (All Too Hard) despite a tough trip.
The Uluru Stud-bred and raced Summer Sham is the first foal out of the placed Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr. Prospector) mare Hot Summer Night, who is herself a three-quarter sister to the stakes-placed Climatic (Fusaichi Pegasus).
Her unraced second dam is the beautifully-bred Unspoken Choice (Giant’s Causeway), a three-quarter sister to Group Three winner Murjana (Giant’s Causeway) and a half-sister to Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), Platinum Scissors (Danehill) and Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago).
This is also the same family as Group One-winning filly Shoals (Fastnet Rock), Group Three winners Precious Lorraine (Encosta De Lago) and Sliding Cube (Rock Of Gibraltar), the dam of Coolmore stallion Rubick (Encosta De Lago), as well as stakes winners Echoes Of Heaven (Encosta De Lago) and Lucky Raquie (Encosta De Lago).
Summer Sham’s sire Not A Single Doubt has 15 lots catalogued at next month’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
