Tempestuous impresses at trials
Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) colt Tempestuous split his Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained stablemates King Kirk and North England (Farnan) when finishing second on debut in the ATC Breeders’ Plate, and he impressed when winning a 740-metre trial at Randwick on Tuesday.
The two-year-old led all the way to prevail by 1.8 lengths under a hold over Cobra Club (Cool Aza Beel) with Nash Rawiller on board. The James Cummings-trained Lonhro (Octagonal) colt Attica was another 1.9 lengths back in third.
Tempestuous was a $375,000 Magic Millions purchase for Waterhouse and Bott with Kestrel Thoroughbreds from Newgate Farm, who retain a share in his ownership. He is out of Windradyne (Sepoy), an imported half-sister to five-time Group 1-winning sprinter Sole Power (Kyllachy).
Windrayne lost a foal last season, and was covered this spring by another Newgate Farm resident in the shape of King’s Gambit (I Am Invincible).
Tempestuous’s stablemate Albany Road (Exceed And Excel) won the next heat, coming from back in the field to score by 0.6 lengths over Pallaton (Wootton Bassett). In third place was Lancelot Du Lac (Flying Artie), who being out of blue hen mare Miss Debutante (Fastnet Rock) is the half-brother to Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Lady of Camelot (Written Tycoon) and Group–winning fillies Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) and Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar).
Albany Road was a $650,000 Magic Millions purchase from Rosemont Stud for Suman Hedge Bloodstock, Waterhouse and Bott and Kestrel thoroughbreds. Being out of Miss Toorak Flyer (Toorak Toff) he is a half-brother to David Coles AM Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Flyer (Exceedance) and Breeders’ Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Treasurway (Starspangledbanner).
Miss Toorak Flyer has a yearling colt by Shamus Award (Snitzel) and a foal at foot by Starspangledbanner (Choisir), and was served by Dundeel (High Chaparral) in September.
