Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot) produced a performance to remember last Saturday as she made a winning debut in the The Debut 2YO Fillies (1000m) on the Gold Coast, boosting the already high profile of her shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) even further.
Sent off the odds-on favourite under Tim Clark, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly looked under pressure before rounding the home bend, but found plenty and drew clear inside the closing stages, defeating Froebel Star (Zousain) by one and a half lengths at the line.
“You’re always a little bit nervous about them getting to the track for the first time but her quality showed through there late because she was challenged, the pressure was put on her at the top of the straight and I loved the way she responded through to the line,” Bott said.
“She’s a tough filly with plenty of class, no doubt. She only had the one trial and we saw plenty of natural brilliance about her there where she showed good, sustained speed.
“I think there is a lot of upside off the back of today and the trip away will do her the world of good. With a filly like her we’d love to add some black type.”
A combination of Waterhouse and Bott, McKeever Bloodstock, and Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber’s Watership Down, who own the filly’s sire Too Darn Hot, purchased Too Darn Lizzie for $1 million at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale out of the Vinery Stud draft.
She is the second foal out of the Blue Diamond Prelude (Gr 2, 1100m) winner and Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) runner-up Enbihaar (Magnus).
Too Darn Lizzie’s half-brother by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) sold for $700,000 at this year’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale to Rosemont Stud, Suman Hedge and Mick Price Racing. Dorrington Farm’s Rob Crabtree, who bred Enbihaar, has also bought a share in the colt.
