Trial double for Microphone
A quartet of juvenile trials at Warwick Farm yesterday saw a pair of fillies by Darley’s first-season sire Microphone (Exceed And Excel) produce promising displays, beginning with Mic Drop who scored in an 802-metre heat.
Trained by Muswellbrook-based Todd Howlett, the filly was landing her second trial success in defeating Full Metal Jacket (Capitalist) by a half-length with Inglis Millennium (RL, 1100m) heroine Fully Lit (Hellbent) a further head back in third, producing the quickest time of all four juvenile heats on yesterday’s card.
Mic Drop was a $300,000 purchase from Lime Country Thoroughbreds for her trainer at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, making her the most expensive yearling by her sire at that sale. She is the first foal out of El Estoora (High Chaparral), herself a sister to Group 2 winner Forever Loved.
Microphone had his second trial winner when Broadcast Boogie produced a much-improved effort to score over 802 metres. The Matthew Smith-trained filly made all and coasted home to beat Zielle (Denman) by two lengths.
A $200,000 purchase for Mystery Downs from the draft of Yarraman Park at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Broadcast Boogie will have a half-brother, by Hellbent (I Am Invincible), sold at next month’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 318.
Last-start Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1000m) third Anode (I Am Invincible) proved he is in great form when he ran out a length winner of his heat over 802 metres. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained colt defeated Blue Point (Shamardal) colt Blue Vein, with Tuileries (So You Think) just a nose further back in third.
Anode is a half-brother to Singapore Derby (Listed, 1800m) hero Sun Marshal (Sepoy) and Evergreen Stud will offer his yearling half-brother, by Maurice (Screen Hero), at next month’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 416.
The other juvenile trial on the card was won by the Ciaron Maher-trained Growing Empire. A son of Zoustar (Northern Meteor), the colt defeated Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) juveniles Perspiration and Interjection by one and a half lengths and one and three-quarter lengths respectively.
