Tulloch Lodge runners dominate Randwick trials
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott sent out a number of their stars at Monday’s Randwick trials, including Storm Boy (Justify) who landed an 850-metre heat in strong style.
Ridden by Adam Hyeronimus, the Justify (Scat Daddy) colt came home well to beat Caballus (I Am Invincible) by 1.3 lengths to claim his second trial in the space of a fortnight.
Later in the morning, the yard had a pair of expensive colts line-up, beginning with $1.55 million yearling purchase Eton (I Am Invincible).
Yet to be seen on the track or at public trials, the first foal out of the multiple Group 1 winner English (Encosta De Lago) was pushed out by Tim Clark to defeat Justify filly Just Feeling Lucky.
The son of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) was bought at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale out of Newhaven Park by Kia Ora Stud, TFI, and his trainers.
Tulloch Lodge’s other high-priced colt was Chiba (Exceed And Excel), who was scoring in a trial at the third time of asking. A $1.8 million purchase by Kia Ora Stud and TFI at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the son of Exceed And Excel (Danehill) came home a comfortable 2.3 lengths winner over Llewellyn (Mendelssohn). Chiba is a half-brother to Breeders Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) winner Empire Of Japan (Snitzel), being out of the Group 2-winning mare Ichihara (General Nediym).
Waterhouse and Bott’s other trial winners at Randwick on Monday were Military Mission (Mastercraftsman), Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon), Royal Patronage (Wootton Bassett), Mayfair (Fastnet Rock), Anode (I Am Invincible), Excelindeed (Exceed And Excel), and Piercing Arrow (I Am Invincible).
