Twin Hills fees remain unchanged
There is no change on the Twin Hills roster, with all five of the farm’s stallions remaining steady at unchanged fees for the 2024 breeding season.
The roster is spearheaded once again by Blue Diamond (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Daumier (Epaulette) and Peltzer (So You Think), who will both be priced at $16,500 (inc GST).
Peltzer, a Group 2-winning son of So You Think (High Chaparral), was represented by his first yearlings at the sales and his results included a $150,000 colt, while his top-priced yearling was a filly who fetched $220,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.
Olly Tait, owner of Twin Hills, told ANZ Bloodstock News he was pleased with Peltzer’s sale ring results and was looking forward to his first runners who hit the track next season.
“Peltzer had his first yearlings go through the ring and they were well received by the market,” he said. “He was a very well priced horse already, so we have kept him at $16,500. He is good value and we think he remains good value.
“You’ve got to present to the market what the market wants and happily there were a number of Peltzers that they did want. He has a big year in front of him and he’ll have a crop of two-year-olds behind him this time next year and hopefully his fee will be going up, time will tell.”
Peltzer, who covered 83 and 84 mares respectively in his first two seasons at stud and covered 57 mares last year, will stand alongside another exciting young stallion in Daumier.
The five-year-old covered 88 mares in his first season last year and Tait said he has kept the fee the same in 2024, believing it to represent good value.
“We were pleased with the way the market responded to him last year and he has let down into a beautiful horse. He went to stud as a four-year-old and so he is a year more mature,” said Tait.
Bred by Godolphin, the son of Epaulette (Commands) was the only colt of his generation to score at Group 1 level as a juvenile and Tait said the fact that fillies have swept three of the four juvenile elite–level races run so far this year, emphasises how hard it is for a colt to win at Group 1 level as a two-year-old.
“This year we have seen the three of the four juvenile Group 1s being won by fillies, of course except from the Champagne which was won by a colt, but that goes to show how hard it is for a colt to win a Group 1 as a two-year-old and this horse did – which is difficult to do,” said Tait.
“This just reiterates what a quality and talented racehorse he was and again at $16,500 (inc GST), he is incredible value and we didn’t think it was appropriate to change his fee.”
Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock), a consistent source of winners, will stay at $13,200 (inc GST), while the roster is completed by two fellow proven stallions Denman (Lonhro) and Hallowed Crown (Street Sense), who will both command fees of $8,800 (inc GST).
Denman’s exploits as a stallion were advertised last weekend when his son Dual Pressure landed the Mornington Guineas (1600m), while Hallowed Crown chalked up his seventh stakes winner courtesy of Kintyre’s Frank Packer Plate (Gr 3, 2000m) win on the same afternoon at Randwick.
“The three proven stallions are three widely respected stallions and they all keep churning out good quality winners,” said Tait.
“We saw that last weekend when Dual Pressure won the Mornington Guineas and Kintyre for Hallowed Crown won the Frank Packer Plate, so they were pleasing results.
“There are not many proven stallions who can get Saturday winners and stakes winners who stand at the fees that those three stand at, so we think they are excellent value.”
