Vale Queenslander Show A Heart
Glenlogan Park is mourning the loss of one of Queensland’s truly great racehorses and stallions in Show A Heart (Brave Warrior) after he was humanely euthanised late last week at the age of 25.
After a stellar career both on the racetrack and in the breeding barn, four-time Group 1 winner Show A Heart, who won a Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) and Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) in Melbourne and a T J Smith Classic (now J J Atkins Plate) (Gr 1, 1600m) and a Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m) in Brisbane between 2000 and 2002, was retired from breeding duties in 2020 and had been living out his retirement at Glenlogan Park in South East Queensland.
Unfortunately, in recent times, the champion first season sire of 2005-06 and second season sire the following year, had lost a good deal of his mobility.
“It’s a very sad time here for everyone”, Glenlogan Park’s Steve Morley said.
“Show A Heart has been a massive part of our lives for over 20 years, doing so much for the farm and the industry, and setting some amazing milestones during his career.”
Bred and raced by Ross and Judy Cutts, Show A Heart was the only horse this century to have won Group 1s at the ages of two, three and four until Anamoe (Street Boss) joined him earlier this year.
He retired after winning a memorable duel with his future barnmate Falvelon (Alannon) in the 2002 Stradbroke Handicap.
The last commercial son from the breed-shaping Star Kingdom (Stardust) line to stand at stud, Show A Heart sired 25 individual stakes winners including three at the highest level, Heart Of Dreams, Toorak Toff and Woorim.
His daughter Mimi Lebrock also won a Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) and his son Heart Of The Citi won a Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (RL, 1400m).
“We couldn’t be more proud of the impact Show A Heart has made”, Morley said.
“He has left a legacy that will have an influence on Australian racing for many years to come.
“When you combine what his progeny have won as a sire and a broodmare sire, it is well over the $100 million mark. I expect that would be a record for any stallion to have stood in Queensland.
“However, his greatest attribute was his incredible kindness. He was always such a wonderful horse to do anything with and he will be very sorely missed.”
Show A Heart is the dam sire of stallions Extreme Warrior (Extreme Choice), Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon), Barbaric (I Am Invincible) and Swear (Redoute’s Choice).
In a fitting finale to what was a sad week for everyone connected to Show A Heart, his son Vetta Velocita, a five-time winner for trainer Stuart Kendrick, was successful at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday in the Cutts family colours.
