Victory in inaugural The Gong sees Mister Sea Wolf take a new Timeform peak rating

Despite his rising years, the eight-year-old Mister Sea Wolf (Amadeus Wolf) [117] achieved a new Timeform peak rating with his victory in Saturday’s $1 million The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange.

After racing in fourth place, Mister Sea Wolf overcame traffic problems at the home turn, hit the front at the 100 metres and then fought well to defeat the Mark Newnham-trained Quackerjack (Not A Single Doubt) [107] by a head in the quick time of 1:34.52.

Timeform evaluated the performance at 117, which was two pounds superior to Mister Sea Wolf’s 115 previous best rating.

Meanwhile in Perth on Saturday, the Bob Peters-raced Regal Power (Pierro) [109] staged a most impressive effort in taking out the $1 million Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Ascot.

After settling near the tail of the field, last season’s WA Derby (Gr 2, 2400m) winner, came with a powerful burst in the straight to defeat the Godolphin-raced Best Of Days (Azamour) [116] by a half-length in a time of 1:35.89.

Timeform awarded Regal Power a rating of 109, which was a jump of six pounds on his 103+ rating achieved in winning the WA Derby in April.

Regal Power has now raced 15 times for five wins and six placings.

In Saturday’s WA Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m), the Neville Parnham-trained War Saint (War Chant) [108], led and fought back to score in a three-way finish from Kay Cee (Playing God) [104] with Red Can Man (Gingerbread Man) [108] a close-up third.

It was War Saint’s third win in seven starts and his first at stakes level.

Timeform evaluated his performance at 108, a new peak for the colt being a significant jump of 15 pounds on his 93 previous best when fourth in the Fairetha Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Ascot a fortnight earlier.

At Saturday’s Ballart feature meeting, the Archie Alexander-trained gelding Kiwia (Redset) [111] took out the Ballarat Cup (Listed, 2000m) with a solid staying effort in recording back-to-back wins in the $500,000 race.

Kiwia fought gamely to defeat Double You Tee (Written Tycoon) [106] by a short head with the Chris Waller-trained Another Dollar (Ocean Park) [105] a half-length away in third.

Timeform awarded a 111 figure to Kiwia, which was one pound less than his 112 rated effort in winning the race in 2018.

The $250,000 Magic Millions 2yo Clockwise Classic (1000m) went to the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained filly Euphoric Summer (Not A Single Doubt) [96] who scored a narrow but good win when having her second race start.

She fought back well to defeat the favourite Rathlin (Fastnet Rock) by a half-head in a time of 59.74.

Euphoric Summer’s effort was rated at 96 by Timeform, an improvement of seven pounds on her 89-rated second to Tanker (Pride Of Dubai) in the Debutant Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Caulfield on October 12 when racing on debut.
