Vivacious (Dundeel) could now be set for black-type goals after she produced an impressive performance to break her maiden at the second time of asking over 1400 metres at Te Aroha on Wednesday.
Having finished third on debut over 1180 metres at the same track on November 3, the three-year-old clearly appreciated the step up in trip, staying on bravely under Opie Bosson to beat Renegade Rebel (El Roca) by a nose. Lanikai (Ocean Park) was a further length and a half away in third.
“She didn’t get all favours up the straight, but it was a nice effort to win, albeit narrowly, and Opie rode a very confident race,” said Walker. “I loved the way Opie used her early to get a handy position, but then she came back to him and relaxed well and quickened up very nicely at the end of the race.
“We’ve thought for some time that she’s a nice staying filly in the making and the further she goes the better she’s going to get.
“We are eying some black–type assignments for her and a very nice filly that Dave (Ellis) and John (Galvin) picked up quite cheaply.”
Owned by John Galvin’s Fortuna Vivacious Syndicate, Vivacious was purchased for NZ$60,000 by Galvin and Te Akau principal David Ellis at the 2022 Ready To Run Sale from the draft of Riverrock Farm.
The daughter of Dundeel (High Chaparral) is out of Group 3 winner Vivi Veloce (More Than Ready), making her half-sister to two winners.
Vivi Veloce herself is a daughter of Group 3 scorer Royal Sash (Royal Academy) and she is also the dam of Group 2 winner Sabatini (Street Cry) as well as the stakes-placed Just Been Lucky (Encosta De Lago).
