Woman (AUS)
The beautifully-bred Woman created quite an impression in winning at Canterbury on her racecourse debut on Wednesday under jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
Bred and raced by Strawberry Hill Stud, she settled nicely in fourth place after a good start in the early stages and improved nicely into a challenging position nearing the home turn.
She was produced to lead at the 100 metres mark and drew away to score in decisive fashion by two lengths from the Godolphin-raced newcomer Laussel (Animal Kingdom).
She is one of two foals out of the multiple Group One-winning mare More Joyous (More Than Ready), who enjoyed eight victories at the highest level for Gai Waterhouse and was crowned champion middle distance horse in Australia in 2011-12.
Her second dam is the 2003 AJC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Sunday Joy (Sunday Silence), herself a half-sister to four-time Group One winner Tuesday Joy (Carnegie), while Woman’s third dam is the 1995 Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Joie Denise (Danehill).
This is also the family of 2015 Vinery Stud Stakes (registered as the Storm Queen Stakes) (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Fenway (High Chaparral) and dual Group Two winner Don’t Doubt Mamma (Not A Single Doubt), who was purchased by Arrowfield Stud for $1,100,000 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale for Breeding Prospects in April.
