Woppitt to part with Sweet Embrace winner Lazzago
Last season’s Sweet Embrace Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winning filly Lazzago (Capitalist) will be offered for sale on the next Inglis Digital online auction.
Trained by Chris Waller for the Kepitis’s Woppitt Bloodstock, Lazzago won her first start in December of her two-year-old season prior to finishing fourth in the Inglis Millennium (RL, 1100m).
She defeated Facile (Trapeze Artist) in the Sweet Embrace, her Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) lead-up, but she suffered severe interference in the Slipper and was eased up by her jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
At three, Lazzago ran fourth in a Scarborough Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) behind Coeur Volante (Proisir) at Moonee Valley and finished runner-up to Estriella (I Am Invincible) in the Kevin Hayes (Gr 3, 1100m).
Woppitt’s Debbie Kepitis described Lazzago as “a wonderful race filly with so much ability’’.
“She was a gorgeous yearling firstly and impressed Chris right from the early days,” Kepitis said.
“It was fantastic for her to win on debut pre-Christmas and then her Inglis Millennium performance and of course her Sweet Embrace Stakes victory at just her third career start.
“She had some excellent form as a three-year-old and has a pedigree with a lot more to give.”
Inglis Digital business manager Nick Melmeth said the quality entries for the next online sale were testament to the ongoing success and reputation of the platform.
“Lazzago is a hugely appealing offering – she would have been amongst the standout lots at the Chairman’s Sale had she been offered there,’’ Melmeth said.
“[Inglis Bloodstock CEO] Sebastian [Hutch] inspected her at the weekend and said that she is a beauty, so it is very exciting for us to have the opportunity to offer a filly with a profile such as hers.”
Bred by Robert Anderson, Lazzago was sold by Widden at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale to Woppitt Bloodstock for $460,000. She is out of seven-time winner Lake Como (Pins), herself a half-sister to Taameer (General Nediym) who in turn is dam of Group 3 winner Khulaasa (Epaulette) and Bulbula (Shamardal).
Bulbula is the dam of Ottawa Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) winning juvenile Aryaaf (Epaulette) and the Group 2-winning sprinter and Rosemont Stud’s new sire Doull (Snitzel).
Lazzago’s Zoustar (Northern Meteor) half-brother was purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier at the Magic Millions in January for $800,000.
Lazzago is one of several quality fillies and mares already confirmed for the June (Early) Sale including:
Swift Sweet (Snitzel) – Group 3-placed behind dual Group 1 winner and $3.4 million broodmare She’s Extreme (Extreme Choice) as a two-year-old, the mare is from the family of Hitotsu (Maurice), Lean Mean Machine (Zoustar) and Love Conquers All (Mossman).
Perfect Gem (Iffraaj) – winning daughter of champion Calveen (Canny Lad) being offered in foal to in-demand young stallion Too Darn Hot (Dubawi).
Langmore (Almanzor) – a half-sister to Group 1 winner and $2 million broodmare Ruthless Dame (Tavistock).
Dalchini (Flying Artie) – multiple Group 3-placed filly with a Danehill-free pedigree, placed in the Nivison (1200m) behind dual Group 1 winner Magic Time (Hellbent) and the Hawkesbury Crown (Gr 3, 1300m) behind Group 1-performed mare Princess Grace (Karakontie).
“The likes of Swift Sweet, Perfect Gem, Langmore and Dalchini all provide fantastic opportunities for breeders to invest in quality, young breeding stock in advance of the breeding season,” Melmeth said.
“The June Early Sale is shaping as another incredibly strong catalogue and we have some more major entries to announce in the next 24 hours which will further ensure attention on the catalogue will be intense.’’
Entries close for the latest Inglis Digital sale at midnight Wednesday.
