Yulong back in the market on Inglis Digital

Yulong came away with the highest-priced lot at the most recent Inglis Digital Sale, when going to $365,000 to purchase the stakes-placed Gibraltar Girl (Manhattan Rain), who is foal to Newgate sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon).

Gibraltar Girl, who placed in the Mode Plate (Listed, 1200m) on the track, is a daughter of dual Listed winner Gibraltar Champion (Rock Of Gibraltar), herself a half-sister to three-time Group 3 winner Only Words (End Sweep), who in turn is the dam of Theo Marks Stakes (Gr 2, 1300m) winner Chat (Deep Field) and Autumn Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) winner Holy Snow (Fastnet Rock).

Gibraltar Girl was offered by Newgate Farm on behalf of owners Greg and Donna Kolivos. She has a yearling and a weanling filly by Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), the former having fetched $425,000 to the bid of Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott and Kestrel Thoroughbreds at this year’s Inglis Easter sale.

“Another nice Stakes-performing mare joins our broodmare band, she’s in foal to one of Australia’s most promising stallions,” said Yulong’s chief operating officer Sam Fairgray.

“She’s from a family we know well through Mr Zhang’s first Stakes winner in Australia – Holy Snow.”

Gibraltar Girl was joined by Sunlight’s (Zoustar) half-sister Solar Cry (Street Cry) and Group 3-winning mare How Womantic (The Wow Signal) in making at least $300,000, while stallion prospect Signore Fox (Exceed And Excel) was secured by Spartus Bloodstock for $310,000.

Solar Cry was purchased by Cambridge Stud in foal to Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) for $310,000, while How Womantic was picked up by Mathew Becker’s Group 1 Bloodstock for $300,000.

How Womantic is set for a date with champion sire elect I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) for her first cover.

“I bought her on behalf of a partnership for Bill Pearce and Rob Cummings. She will now be retired and will likely visit I Am Invincible,” Becker said.

“We saw her at Ciaron Maher’s farm this morning and we really liked her on type. We love these speed mares anyway, but she has a lot of quality, deep girth and is a big, strong mare overall.

“She has a lovely way about her and we just liked her immediately. She is everything you want in a yearling, so hopefully she will pass on her traits and ‘Vinnie’ is a great stallion to start off a young mare’s breeding career.”

Elsewhere, Night Of Thunder (Dubawi) mare Hela sold for $150,000 and Group 3-placed mare Hasstobegood (Per Incanto) reached $120,000 to the bid of Bell View Park Stud. Courtesan (Mastercraftsman), a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Monaco Consul (High Chaparral) and dam to two winners from four named foals, made $100,000 in foal to Maurice (Screen Hero).

Overall, the July (Early) Sale grossed $5,402,150 and posted a clearance of 79 per cent.
